Texas Children’s Hospital has taken a leadership role in promoting health and safety awareness among families and students with the I Can Be Healthy educational program, underwritten in 2006 by Kohl's and published by Weekly Reader.

Rising rates of childhood obesity and related diseases are prompting an increased focus in the elementary school classroom on promoting healthy eating and lifestyle habits early in life. Kindergarten through third grade is an ideal time for children to learn about making healthy choices.

The I Can Be Healthy educational program received enthusiastic feedback from teachers in 2005. We look forward to building on its success with the 2006-2007 program that focuses on healthy food and activity choices for young students.
