  Fetal Center Family Reunion
Texas Children’s Fetal Center hosted its first-ever Family Reunion on Sept. 8. The festivities reunited patients and their families with Texas Children’s physicians, surgeons and staff who cared for them. The gathering provided guests with a chance to visit with old friends – and the opportunity to make new ones. (more)

diagnosed in second trimester,
Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome

A pregnant Roberta, her husband Walter and their 8-year-old son were joyously planning for twins when they got the news every expectant family dreads hearing: There’s a life-threatening problem. A perinatologist informed her she had twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), a disease of the placenta that affects identical twin pregnancies. She was then referred to Texas Children’s Fetal Center. lymphatic malformation or giant neck mass

Little Lauren has been extraordinary from the time she was born. Diagnosed with lymphatic malformation — more commonly known as a giant neck mass — even before she was born, Lauren’s birth and subsequent growth is a story of medical innovation carried out by surgeons and their support staff at the Texas Children's Fetal Center. Young Garrett, about to celebrate his first birthday, overcame life-threatening challenges even before his birth. At 22 weeks into his mother Jan's pregnancy with Garrett, the pair underwent a rare, delicate open-fetal operation at Texas Children's Fetal Center. (more)

diagnosed before birth,
hernia of the diaphragm

Michelle and Tim are trained to look for the absolutes – he is an engineer, she a former math teacher – but when their daughter was diagnosed with a severe congenital diaphragmatic hernia, they were faced with uncertainty.

Their perseverance and search for answers on the Internet brought them to the Texas Children's Fetal Center, where their baby had lifesaving surgery soon after birth. (more)
