Individualized and comprehensive programs

Individualized program
Individualized program means that each child’s developmental profile and individual differences are considered when creating a program for that child and family. Rather than a child fitting into an existing program, Bridges will set-up a unique program that is aimed at helping a child master the foundations of emotional and intellectual learning. While each child’s program is individualized to the child or family, core components to the comprehensive program are included in programs at Bridges.

Comprehensive program
A comprehensive intervention program for children with special needs includes consideration of developmentally appropriate practices and intervention within the following domains: home program, school program, specific therapies as required, biomedical interventions and family support.

  • Home program includes three elements: spontaneous, developmentally appropriate interactions with adults and peers; semi-structured problem-solving interactions; and motor, sensory and visual-spatial activities.
  • School program includes three elements: spontaneous, developmentally appropriate interactions with teachers and peers; semi-structured problem-solving interactions, and motor, sensory, and visual-spatial activities, plus additional educational and social activities.
  • Specific therapies, as required, include: speech and language therapy; occupational and or physical therapy; visual-spatial interventions and perceptual-motor interventions.
  • Biomedical interventions include consideration of the following:
    • Medication to enhance motor planning and sequencing, self-regulation, concentration, and/or auditory processing and language;
    • Nutrition and diet; and
    • Technologies geared to improve processing abilities.
