If you’re spending more time on the toilet than off, these tips can make the time as useful and distracting as possible.
At home
Consider toilet time as your break from the world. If you have a noisy fan, it’s harder for others to hear you and vice versa. If you have good lighting, it can be the best reading spot (and least interrupted) in your living area.
Build your bathroom library. It’s a great place to keep your most distracting books and magazines.
Take up drawing or letter writing.
Buy a nice lap desk for your new creative activities.
Get a night light for your bathroom so you don’t wake anybody by turning on lights during the night.
Put up posters of beautiful places on the wall in front of you so you can pretend you’re somewhere else if you need or want to escape.
Away from home
Carry travel sizes of wet wipes and hand sanitizer.
Keep soft tissues on hand if you want the comfort of soft paper.
Find a small bottle of air freshener.
You might need extra underwear plus a plastic bag to hold the old pair.
Find out where the least-used bathrooms are in the places you frequent so you’ll have privacy.
Report inadequate or ill-kept facilities for a better tomorrow.
