Nursing at Texas Children's Hospital

Council
– An ongoing
group, chartered by Nursing Coordinating Council,
with responsibility for decision-making and action
consistent with its functional delineation.
Committee
– An ongoing
group, chartered by a council, with a designated
scope of authority for decision-making and action in
order to achieve pre-established outcomes.
Task Force -
A short-term group, chartered by a
council or committee, with a specific level of authority to collect
sufficient information in order to make appropriate recommendations.

Texas Children's nurses participate in
a variety of committees to help the organization achieve its goals
and to provide opportunities for nurses to expand their professional
knowledge and skills. The department produces a quarterly online
newsletter to update all nurses about the work of the councils,
committees and task forces.
Councils and committees select members
who offer diversity in terms of shifts, units, experience, and

Texas Children's nurses are encouraged
to serve as officers in national and regional professional
organizations, and as editors and authors for a variety of medical
publications.
Recent examples of the public role
Texas Children's nurses serve include:
Terri Brown, RN, MSN, Clinical
Nurse Specialist, was selected for a three-year term as a test item
writer for the National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse
Practitioners and Nurses for the CPN Self Assessment Exam
committee.
Emily Weber, NM, Roxanne Vara,
RN (Chair of 11 Tower’s Practice Council) and Chastity Jaime
(Co-chair of 11 Tower’s Practice Council) visited the State Capitol
in Austin, Texas, to discuss nursing issues and concerns with
members of the State Legislature.
