Macie Robinson,
deceased
Leukemia
Macie Robinson was a miracle baby from the beginning. She was the
answer to her parents’ prayers. After trying to have a baby for six
years Macie came along and changed their lives forever. She was the
priceless gift that Jinger and Toby had yearned for.
It seemed as though everyone was ecstatic,
even the red birds outside their front door. The birds were in the
yard the day Macie was born. At first sight, Jinger did not think
much of their presence, but she would soon learn that the birds
would be symbols of important moments in Macie’s life.
The red birds appeared again on April 16,
2006—a date that will forever remain in the hearts and minds of the
Robinson family. It was the day that little Macie was diagnosed with
acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She was only five weeks old. Jinger
thought that she was bringing Macie in for a simple breathing
treatment, never thinking she would hear the diagnosis she was
given.
“We had to find our faith real fast—to
watch such a little baby hurt so badly was hard but she continued to
smile, everyday,” Jinger said. Even after relapsing twice, tiny
little Macie seemed to have unfathomable strength.
The time came when Macie could no longer
battle cancer. Not because she was giving up, Jinger explains, but
because she had finished her duties for the Lord. And like every
other important day in Macie’s life, the red birds appeared. But on
this day, Nov. 3, 2006, they came to help little Macie make her
flight to heaven.
Although words will never do justice in
describing just how much the Robinson’s miss their daughter, they
are grateful for the time they had with her. “We had an angel for 8
months. I wouldn’t trade the eight months we had with sick little
Macie for 50 years with anyone else in the world.”
The broken hearts that Macie left behind
will never heal completely, but Jinger and Toby are finding the
strength to move forward by taking each day as it comes. The red
birds still frequently appear in the yard and Jinger finds comfort
in their visits. Deep down inside she knows they are just a symbol
of Macie coming by to check in on her family.
