Kendall Tate, 13
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
The day of the family portrait, Kendall Tate was all smiles on the
outside. But a sick feeling on the inside was the first indication
that something may be wrong.
There was two months between that day and
the day she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Like
many families, the Tates evaluated all their options and decided on
Texas Children’s Hospital.
“When the doctors told us Kendall had
leukemia I was there hugging and holding her,” said Paul Tate,
Kendall’s father. “At first, I felt hopeless because it was out of
my control. But my wife and I looked at each other and knew we would
conquer it.”
Kendall’s attitude was certainly a big
help. She has a humble soul that is forever thankful in her prayers
and appreciative to the nurses and doctors responsible for her care.
Her father tells the story of one night when a nurse came into her
room to take her blood and Kendall woke up and said “Thank you for
helping me.”
The entire Tate family is so grateful to
Texas Children’s Hospital staff and everyone who has volunteered
their time and money to the hospital’s efforts.
Kendall’s friends and sisters; Courtney, Claire and Kelly, raised
$300 for cancer research with lemonade stands, bake sales and making
key chains. The Tate family is pleased that Kendall only has about
six more months of treatment.
Paul said prior to Kendall’s diagnosis he
knew he loved his children, “but my love has reached new depths.”
