There are two things
to do the
day before your child's surgery.
First, find out what time your child's
surgery will begin by calling the surgeon's office.
There are two locations for same day
surgery at Texas Children's, so be sure to ask if the surgery is
scheduled in the West Tower or the
Clinical Care Center.
Please keep in mind that the scheduled surgery time is our best estimate.
Your child's surgery could be earlier or later for many reasons, so
please be flexible and patient.
It is extremely important to follow these rules.
 Your
child may have solid food up to six hours before surgery, breast
milk up to four hours before and clear liquids up to two hours.
Clear liquids are those you can see through, such as apple juice,
water and Pedialyte. Because your child's surgery time may be
earlier than originally scheduled,
try to extend these hours if possible.

If your child has a
contagious disease such as chicken pox or measles, or recently has
been with someone with a contagious disease, we must know before you
come to Texas Children's for surgery.
