The Speech, Language and Learning Clinic at Texas Children's provides evaluation, management and consultation for infants, children, adolescents and adults with communication, learning, feeding and/or swallowing problems. Types of problems that are evaluated and managed include: 

• Oral and written language difficulties

• Communication difficulties related to hearing impairment

• Learning disabilities

• Cleft palate

• Velopharyngeal insufficiency (hypernasal speech)

• Voice disorders

• Articulation disorders (difficulty pronouncing speech sounds)

• Fluency disorders (stuttering)

• Aphasia (language loss relating to brain injury)

• Dysarthria (slurred, slowed speech)

• Apraxia (difficulty sequencing speech sounds)

• Tracheostomy

• Feeding difficulties 

• Dysphagia (swallowing disorders)

The speech, language and learning clinic is affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine's Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Communicative Sciences. The speech-language pathologists collaborate with various Texas Children's Hospital departments and clinics, including diagnostic imaging, feeding disorders, the cleft palate clinic, the craniofacial anomalies clinic, the Meyer Center for Developmental Pediatrics, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. The Hearing Center at Texas Children's Hospital and the Texas Children's Hospital Health Centers. 

Referrals to speech, language and learning are accepted from schools, physicians, other professionals and families. A medical referral is required for all hospitalized patients as well as for people with voice disorders and swallowing disorders. 

Intellectual assessments can be performed by a certified educational diagnostician. Services in Spanish are also available.
