Purpose
To provide transportation assistance to families whose children are enrolled in the Medicaid program. The transportation program provides funds for travel expenses, including gas reimbursement or bus tickets, meal and lodging reimbursement.

Who to call
To request medical transportation program services call

• Provide the following:
  • Your child’s Medicaid number
  • Your social worker’s name and phone number
  • Date, time and purpose of your appointment
• If your child is coming for a clinic visit, notify them of the date and time of your visit. (You must call TWO DAYS prior to your visit!)
• If your child will be admitted and you live outside of Harris County, request both travel and meal reimbursement assistance.
• Lodging assistance is available to parent’s whose children will be admitted to the ICU or who will need to remain in town for further evaluation on an out-patient basis.
• Medical transportation will call your social worker to verify your appointment or admission.

Tips to remember

• Meal and lodging assistance is only for individuals who live outside the Houston area.
• Bus tokens must be requested a week in advance.
• Cab transportation must be arranged two days in advance.

Obtaining reimbursement
Your money will be sent to Western Union. The closest Western Union is located at the Medical Center Postal Express, within walking distance from Texas Children's Hospital. The office is located in the Scurlock Tower by the garage exit.

Upon requesting your money, you will need to fill out a form and provide the exact amount of the transfer as well as the name and address of sender, which should be as follows:
