Financial counselors are available in the 3rd floor
admissions office to help discuss your individual family’s financial
needs.
Below
you will find a list of government funded programs for which your
child may qualify. Many of these programs involve a long waiting
list and may require you to reapply many times.
Please
be aware when calling most of these agencies, the wait time can be
long and may require you to follow-up on a regular basis.
Medicaid 713-767-2000

Medicaid is a statewide program which provides health insurance for
low-income families. The client must be a Texas resident and must
meet financial and resource guidelines.
Eligibility: A child under age eighteen who meets
income requirements for public health insurance. The application can
be downloaded from the Internet.

CHIP

Children’s
Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides health insurance to
low-income children.
Eligibility:
A child under age eighteen whose family does not meet the income
guidelines for Medicaid and cannot afford private health insurance.
The application can be downloaded from the Internet.

Supplemental Security
Income (SSI) provides monthly financial and insurance assistance for
individuals with disabilities.
Eligibility:
A child under age eighteen with a physical or mental condition that
can result in severe functional limitations. SSI provides Medicaid
coverage and monthly cash assistance to eligible individuals. Eligibility is based on citizenship status, financial status, and
disability. An online screening tool can be downloaded from the
Internet.

Children with Special
Health Care Needs (CSHCN) is available statewide. A child must be a
Texas resident and must be diagnosed with a disease covered by CSHCN. Services covered by CSHCN include inpatient and outpatient
hospitalization, physician services, equipment, medications and
insurance payment assistance.
Eligibility: A
child must be under 21, unless diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Eligibility is also based on family income. A child does not have
to be a U.S. citizen to qualify.

The Medically Dependent
Children Program (MDCP) provides respite services, home
modifications, adaptive aids and supports for families with
medically involved children and young adults.
Eligibility: A
Texas resident under age 21 who qualifies for SSI or meets both SSI
disability and financial criteria based on income.
MNP

The Medically Needy Program
(MNP) is a statewide program for Medicaid participants of any age. This program provides healthcare for families who do not have
limited income to meet their medical needs, but are not eligible for
cash assistance because their income is above the TANF and other
medical program limits.
Eligibility:
A child must meet all other
Medicaid eligibility requirements, and submit unpaid medical bills.

Family Health Services Information &
Referral Line offers information and referrals to help children with
special health-care needs. They will help families find local
health and family-support services to meet their needs.
