Cancellation Policy:  A written request for a full refund must be received by Texas Children's Hospital no later than 21 days prior to the start of the course.  Written requests later than 21 days will result in a 50% refund; 72 hours or less no refund.  Tuition may only be applied toward another Texas Children's Hospital sponsored course within 6 months of cancellation. Courses where Texas Children's Hospital is not the primary sponsor do not qualify. Texas Children's Hospital reserves the right to cancel the event 10 days prior to the course date and assumes no responsibility for pre-purchased tickets.

Postural Alignment Strategies: Infancy through Adolescence
September 27& 28, 2008
This course will focus on the importance of alignment, assist therapists with recognizing clinical signs of postural problems, and discuss treatment strategies for the development of optimal posture alignment, control and movement. Therapeutic intervention to optimize alignment, including tapes, garments, straps, splints, and cast will be presented with specifics techniques demonstrated. Lab sessions will include the use of these intervention with fabrication of a Birkenstock insoles and night splints (for PT), and semi-rigid wrist and long arm cast, and thumb spica (for OT). Assessment and Treatment of Children with Cleft Lip and Palate
October 24, 2008
This one-day seminar will provide techniques for the assessment and treatment of children with a cleft lip and palate, focusing on children ranging in age from birth to elementary school years. This course will review anatomy and common surgical interventions for children with clefts. Assessment and intervention techniques will range from feeding strategies for newborns with clefts to effective evaluation and speech therapy activities for children with speech disorders relating to cleft palate and velopharyngeal dysfunction. Three Day Intensive on Treating the Child with Hypotonia
October 31 – November 2, 2008
This three day intensive workshop on treating the child with hypotonia will focus on specific strategies to improve motor control in this population. Techniques to improve proximal control, sustained postural movements against gravity, and symmetrical alignment will be demonstrated through use of videotapes, as well as patient demonstrations and practice labs. Participants will learn treatment strategies to improve functional performance and independence in children with hypotonia. Learn more

Yoga Therapy for the Child with Developmental Challenges
Course Date December 12 – 13, 2008
This workshop teaches the clinician a balanced therapeutic yoga approach with modifications for various populations. Through experiential labs you will learn the physical, physiological, regulatory, emotional and sensory- motor benefits of Yoga for The Child with Developmental Challenges. Learn the benefits and modifications for special populations. Use of rhythm and breath control will be emphasized to facilitate regulation and organization. A sequence of postures will be analyzed to highlight the therapeutic aspects of each. Neuro-physiological benefits will be described and enhanced by videotaped case studies.  Learn more

Aquatic Integration (AI)
February 18-21, 2009
Aquatic Integration (AI) is a new approach to hydrotherapy which combines eastern meridian and point work with myofascial release, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation and breath work. AI is highly effective in restoring sensory perception and motor control as well as increasing range of motion and reducing muscular Spasticity and has proven a profoundly effective tool in pain management. The practitioner may use holds or a soft collar and leg float to achieve the most comfortable and affective positioning. This allows both client and therapist to be in a state of complete relaxation. It also gives the therapist the ability to use both hands for connection, palpation and mobilization. This work is well suited for the physical therapist; massage therapist, adaptive physical educators, occupational therapists, chiropractors and somatic therapists working with neurological or musculoskeletal pathologies and rehabilitation. Aquatic Integration can be utilized as a technique for full treatment or portions can be utilized within another aquatic modality. This type of facilitating warm water technique also works very well in conjunction with an active assist treatment or exercise plan. Learn more
 

Kinesiotaping Fundamentals and Advanced Whole Body Techniques Level KT1/KT2
March 14 & 15, 2009
This two day course is designed to provide physical and occupational therapists with information and instruction on Kinesio Taping methods. Kinesio taping is a method of treatment for musculoskeletal and myofascial disorders and edema control. This method can be used during physical activity and in conjunction with many therapies. Attendees will gain insight into theory and taping techniques for a variety of concerns, including joint instability, muscular weakness, abnormal alignment, pain and inflammation. Learn more
